A quality store needs quality Internet; Barneys New York selects Bel Air Internet for three mission-critical locations

All you have to say is Barneys to get a shopper’s pulse racing.

The luxury department chain has been a bastion of taste and class ever since the first Barneys New York opened its doors in Manhattan almost a century ago. Since then, their stores have become a chic respite for discerning shoppers across the country, as they’ve evolved into what they call a “modern luxury specialty store”.

So it’s no surprise that this modern-day Barneys is firmly embracing the future of retail and technology, as they tapped Bel Air Internet to deliver our carrier-grade Internet solution to several of their Los Angeles locations.

High-caliber, reliable, low-latency Internet has increasingly become an integral part of the modern retail experience (both for guests and pop up events, as well as the increasingly sophisticated back-end systems). Thus, ensuring a store has adequate bandwidth to cover their needs is essential not just to productivity, but to a positive shopping experience, as well.

Barneys considered several Internet providers for their outposts at The Grove and The Americana (most of whom could not deliver the bandwidth capacity they needed in a timely manner), finally choosing Bel Air Internet to provide Internet to these two highly trafficked and extremely visible locations.

After seamless installations and service experience at both stores, Bel Air Internet was selected to provide Internet for a third Barneys location: their renowned Beverly Hills flagship. A quality broadband connection was extremely mission-critical at the Beverly Hills location, which spans almost a city block and houses dozens of exclusive pop up shops and trunk shows with high-profile designers and guests.

The move by Barneys to prioritize high-caliber Internet throughout their Los Angeles locations speaks to the quality guest experience they hope to provide, as well as a larger strategy to create even more operational efficiency. Because Barneys has transitioned their back-end systems to the cloud, reliable high-speed Internet with a very low latency is critical to their day-to-day operations.

In addition, as pop-up shops and fashion shows become increasingly interactive, it was essential to Barneys to find a permanent quality Internet solution that could handle the increased traffic on those days with ease. For example, their Beverly Hills location will soon host thedropLA@barneys, a two-day “immersive experience”, which will feature capsule collections, designer appearances and “experiential installations and environments”, as well as unique in-store activations and programming, all of which will rely on our Internet to run smoothly.

It may be a far cry from the cobblestoned street days when Barneys first opened its doors, but it reflects a core value that has remained with them throughout: a dedication to quality and customer experience.

thedropLA@barneys will take place June 2 – 3 at the Beverly Hills flagship location.
